Did my good deed for the day
The husband and I went to Staples Business Depot after work today so he could pick up a digital voice recorder (he likes to get ideas out of his head and he tends to freeze up when trying to type them out). At the cashier counter they were promoting a fundraiser. The fundraiser was that you could buy these prepackaged school kits for kids who came from homes that can't afford new school supplies. For one kit, it was less than $5.00.
I remember what it was like growing up being raised by a single mother - when dinner was only a box of Kraft macaroni & cheese for all three of us. Never going into the cafeteria in highschool so no one could see that I didn't have a lunch. I know what it's like to ask the teacher for a pen or pencil, and carrying around a battered binder because it was the only one you had at the time. My husband remembers what it was like too.
So, of course we bought one. And we put in in the bin, and I'm very glad to say that it was a large bin that was more than half full of these kits.
It's those moments that you realize that despite all the bullshit, wank and crap going on in fandom or RL there IS good going on, which will make you smile at the most unexpected moments.
